Round Table Discussion presented by Library and Archives Canada and The Globe and Mail
In this post-truth era, disinformation threatens our rights, our civil society, our democratic institutions, and our ability to inform ourselves and our children. How do we reconcile the demands of journalism—which are essential to transparency and good governance—with business imperatives aimed at identifying our audience? As guardians of knowledge, how can social networks and 21st-century libraries help us manage the overabundance of information in our already busy lives?
To discuss these critical issues, Library and Archives Canada and The Globe and Mail will be bringing together media representatives (also known as the “Fourth Estate”), social media leaders, and librarians.

Where: The offices of The Globe and Mail, Suite 1600, 351 King Street East, Toronto
Registration is free.
The discussion, moderated by Guy Berthiaume, Librarian and Archivist of Canada will include the following panellists:
- David Walmsley, Editor in Chief, Globe and Mail,
- Gerald Beasley, Carl A. Croch University Librarian, Cornell University, and
- Rory Capern, former directing manager of Twitter Canada.
A question and answer period will follow the presentations.
A reception will be held at 5:30 pm prior to the event to allow participants to network and discuss the subject matter in an informal setting.
