Call for Proposals: 2019 Library Publishing Forum

Have a cool project happening at your library? Mulling over a big topic? Want an excuse to collaborate with peers in the library publishing world? You’re in luck – the call for proposals for the 2019 Library Publishing Forum is now open! As we did for the 2018 Forum, we are accepting proposals for two different types of sessions: individual presentations (15 minutes) and full sessions (60 minutes). Individual presentations are a great opportunity to showcase a project, a workflow, an in-progress program or research project, etc. Full sessions will dig a little deeper, with multi-institution presentations or interactive formats.

While we don’t have a formal conference theme, we do have a set of mini-themes and topic suggestions, inspired by LPC’s new strategic plan:

• Proposals that consider and promote discussions of diversity and inclusion
• Case studies that highlight new initiatives, partnerships, or research
• Sessions that focus on professional development and shared best practices
• Sessions that envision the library publishing community working together (or joining forces with others) to tackle challenges at scale
• Sessions exploring the role of library publishing in the bigger context of scholarly communication

Submission deadline: November 30, 2018.

The Library Publishing Coalition (LPC) is accepting proposals for the 2019 Library Publishing Forum to be held May 8-10, 2019, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Proposals are welcome from LPC members and nonmembers, including librarians, university press staff, publishing service providers (vendors), scholars, students, and other scholarly communications and publishing professionals. We especially encourage proposals from first-time presenters and representatives of small and emerging publishing programs. We also welcome proposals from individuals who do not currently have support to attend the conference in person. LPC is exploring options for travel support and/or remote presentation to enable participation by a diverse group of presenters.

We invite proposals for both full sessions (60 minutes, including Q&A) and individual presentations (~15 minutes). Proposals for full sessions must involve presenters from more than one institution or be interactive (e.g. workshop, working session, collaborative conversation). Proposals for individual presentations will be matched up thematically with other individual presentations into full sessions.

Proposals may address any topic of interest to the library publishing community. We especially encourage the following:

• Proposals that consider and promote discussions of diversity and inclusion;
• Case studies that highlight new initiatives, partnerships, or research;
• Sessions that focus on professional development and shared best practices
• Sessions that envision the library publishing community working together (or joining forces with others) to tackle challenges at scale;
• Sessions exploring the role of library publishing in the bigger context of scholarly communication

How to Submit

Submit your proposal via the proposal form.

All proposals must include:

• A session title (and a brief, social-media-friendly title)
• Names and affiliations of presenters
• An abstract (maximum 300 words)
• A description of learning outcomes or benefits to attendees

Full sessions must involve presenters from more than one institution or be interactive (e.g. workshop, working session, collaborative conversation). The abstract should include the topic and a clear description of the session format (e.g., speaker presentations, roundtable discussion, workshop, working session, etc.).

Individual presentations are appropriate for one or two presenters. These may be case studies, project updates, research reports, demonstrations of new tools, etc. Because the Committee will be combining individual presentations into thematic sessions, the proposal abstract should highlight key topics and themes around which a full session could be organized.

Criteria

The LPC Program Committee will review and accept proposals based on their relevance to the audience, the clarity of description, and their potential for inspiring discussion, collaboration, and innovation. Recognizing that library publishing has a unique opportunity to amplify underrepresented voices in scholarly communication, the Committee will strive to represent a variety of perspectives in all sessions, with racial and gender diversity being an integral part of that variety.
