Catharine “Kitty” Cocks (1934-2019)

September 16, 2019

Hello colleagues,

Many of you may have found your first – or a temporary — job in the Ottawa library community through Miss Hall’s Personnel Service.

Kitty Cocks may have interviewed you. You would not forget her. Dressed for business, efficient yet friendly, her interviews made sure firms and departments got what they wanted, and you were up to the task!

I had not seen Ms. Cocks for more than 19+ years when our paths crossed again, outside the work context this time. I was delighted to see her. What a lovely warm woman she was! She did not remember interviewing me, but I told her I certainly remembered her, and how she had helped me get a start in Ottawa. She beamed. I beamed too: Ms. Cocks, the legend, and I could now call her “Kitty”!

Catharine (Kitty) Cocks died September 3. I was away and only found out yesterday, so perhaps news has already spread through our community. I am attaching her obituary which contains details for her funeral service at Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa, Sunday October 20 at 2 p.m:
