Accessibility plays a meaningful role in collection development and makes an impact on a library’s daily operations and services. With guidance from experts in the field, examine the aspects that accessibility touches on beyond your immediate physical or digital collection. Learn how to:

  • assess your current resources;
  • consider accessibility when procuring resources;
  • take into account potential accessibility barriers of your current digital resources and catalogue; and
  • use CELA’s collections to complement your own collections.

Using breakaway sessions, build on these conversations and seize the opportunity to ask questions related to accessibility in your own library. Building a rich collection of reading materials in many formats is good for everyone!

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the accessibility of your own library collection and how CELA can complement your collection (what we have, how to access)
  • Start thinking about accessibility in all aspects of book procurement
  • Learn how to advocate with your vendor about accessibility
  • Understand current accessibility barriers in your licensed digital resources and catalogue
  • Learn more about accessibility metadata, and how you can incorporate it into your own catalogue

Intended Audience: Library professionals; collection development librarians; managers in libraries. Everyone is welcome!

Speakers:

  • Rachel Breau, Manager of Member Services (CELA)
  • Ioana Gandrabur, Peer Trainer (CELA)
  • Heather McDonald, Systems and Technical Services Supervisor, Woodstock Public Library
