Theme: Sowing Seeds for Change: Growing the Practice of Academic Librarianship

The Canadian Association of Professional Academic Librarians (CAPAL) invites you to participate in its annual conference, to be held as part of the Congress of Humanities and Social Sciences 2023 at York University on the traditional lands of the Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Huron-Wendat.

Theme

In keeping with the Congress 2023 theme, Reckonings & Re-Imaginings, the theme of CAPAL23 is Sowing Seeds for Change: Growing the Practice of Academic Librarianship.

Sowing Seeds for Change encourages our membership to consider how we cultivate and tend to the practice of academic librarianship. Just as seeds are borne from the fruit of the previous year’s crop, our professional practices grow and blossom over years of experimentation and iteration. This theme will focus on how we achieve needed change in the discipline, particularly as it relates to equity, diversity, and inclusion. The theme also invites us to consider how we build structures that inspire and support growth as much as we tend to the seeds of change we grow.
