Location

Details
The National Forum brings together library leaders and stakeholders from Canada and abroad for the purposes of expanding knowledge, sparking ideas, building networks, and collaborating on issues that impact our industry.
This year, the Canadian Federation of Library Associations presents the CFLA National Forum 2020 in Winnipeg, following the Manitoba Library Association conference.
A number of recent events held in Canadian library spaces have occasioned controversy within the Canadian library community, causing many to question how best to apply values that we consider important to library service. Upholding the value of intellectual freedom may seem at times to undermine efforts to create a welcoming space for some community members. It’s time to explore these issues together.
Objectives
The 2020 Program Committee has identified the major objectives of the Forum to set expectations for the event and guide promotion. The objectives are as follows:
- To foster a conversation with the Canadian Library community about intellectual freedom.
- To understand how intellectual freedom may on occasion compete with other core values.
- To explore best practices on how to manage these situations as they arise.
- To use the experience, knowledge and skills of library workers to inform CFLA-FCAB’s work in this area.
