The symposium will bring together faculty, archivists, librarians, students, and community members in order to discuss medieval manuscript collections in Canada, including collecting practices and scholarship with these valuable and unique items. Among the topics speakers will cover are the integration of medieval manuscripts into the undergraduate and graduate curriculum; developing collections of medieval manuscripts in Canada; and the development of new tools for analyzing and interpreting manuscripts.
Dr. Erik Kwakkel (Leiden University) will deliver a keynote providing insight into his important discovery connecting a fragment from UVic Special Collections with the Pamplona bibles. Invited speakers also include:
- Dr. Leslie Barnes (University of Toronto),
- Dr. Siobhan Bly Calkin (Carleton University),
- Dr. Sian Echard (University of British Columbia),
- Dr. P.J. Carefoote (Thomas Fisher Library, University of Toronto),
- Dr. Faith Wallis (McGill University),
- and Dr. David Watt (University of Manitoba).
The symposium is free and open to the public. The symposium is part of a SSHRC-funded series of events, Unravelling the Code(x), exploring book history scholarship and the creation, circulation, and reception of knowledge.
