The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Margaret Herrick Library is pleased to present Documenting Cinema: Film Librarianship in the 21st Century, a conference that provides an opportunity for professionals working with paper-based, motion picture-related collections to share knowledge and work processes integral to the administration of their collections, as well as offers a forum for cross-cultural exchange with colleagues from similar institutions worldwide.

Documenting Cinema will take place at the Academy’s Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study in Los Angeles, California. The conference is open to librarians, archivists and specialized practitioners who manage paper materials documenting the industrial and/or artistic aspects of motion pictures, as well as students pursuing a graduate degree with a similar focus. Panelists will examine the key issues facing film library and archive professionals today, including access, digitization, and cataloguing methods. The conference will also include a day of organized visits to two local archives, including the Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library, for interested participants.

The closing of the conference kicks off the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) Congress, which will take place from April 28 to May 3, 2017.
