The Ontario Library Association is Canada’s largest library organization and OLA’s Super Conference is Canada’s largest continuing education event in librarianship. Within the Super Conference event is the country’s largest library tradeshow. The program is a tribute to the ability of OLA members to balance the cutting edge and the practical in a way that can satisfy an increasingly diverse number of member interests and needs.

While this is a very big event, it is also a very good event with exceptionally high scores in delegate evaluations. With each passing year, OLA members surpass themselves in the breadth and excellence of what they produce in this program. They succeed because, more and more, they are willing to take risks, to raise their sights in identifying what is needed, what is possible and what will move themselves and their peers forward.

It’s time to Get Loud.

Get Loud symbolizes our commitment to civic engagement, recognizing the significance of libraries in promoting equity, diversity, and truth. As champions of education and democracy, libraries play a pivotal role in empowering individuals and building community. We acknowledge the challenges ahead, unsure of the exact demands our services will face or how our libraries will adapt and transform.

In this dynamic and transformative era, Get Loud also signals a commitment to our professional values and our confidence in and certainty that values-based library practices (e.g., planning, programming, service delivery, and assessment) will continue to stand the test of time. Libraries serve as platforms that help people find their voices and strive to offer safe spaces for the expression of diverse ideas, experiences, and perspectives.

At a moment of derision and division, when libraries increasingly become sites of protest, we must stand up for and actively defend the library and its foundational role in fostering an informed citizenry and enlightened society.

Together, as we move forward, united by our shared purpose, let us reconnect with and recommit to our founding mission with determination and a resounding voice.
