Cybersecurity incidents, COVID shut downs, and weather related impacts are all examples of major challenges that have impacted public libraries in Canada. And these will continue to happen. As leaders, our tendency is to want to make elaborate plans for how we’ll handle these situations. And while we can plan for complicated scenarios (patterns that are intricate and predictable), we can’t plan for complex scenarios (those that are unpredictable and human-related.) This workshop explores how leaders can prepare for the unpreparable by shoring up the human abilities that will be called on in moments of crises.

Date & Time:  Monday, June 16, 2025 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm ET

Format: Online workshop via Zoom

Intended Audience:
This workshop is offered under EI’s Leadership and Management Series. Library and information management professionals from across all sectors are welcome to attend, including those currently in or seeking leadership / management roles.

Facilitator:
Andrea Freeman is an executive coach who helps quiet, compassionate leaders step out of the shadows and into positions of power, and helps organizations wake up and recognize all their untapped potential. Before starting her coaching business in 2017, she worked as an organizational leader in public libraries, leading departments of 100+ people and running a provincial public library organization as the Executive Director. Andrea has 700+ hours of experience coaching leaders in companies like Vancouver Public Library, University of British Columbia, Amazon, Lululemon, Clio, and Target. She blogs at andreafreemancoaching.com and is passionate about showing up with generosity and a big heart to help quiet leaders grow.

Fresh topics are tackled in the third iteration of this ongoing virtual workshop series. Participate in interactive sessions to build essential management skills, improve leadership performance, and inspire resilience to navigate challenging library workplace situations.
