It is difficult to remember a time when our health libraries were not facing significant challenges. Funding cuts, staff reductions, space reallocations, and health library closures have become all too common. Decision-makers need to better understand the critical value our libraries and library teams bring to their organization.
Learn how to strategically define and draft organizational values and how to effectively communicate them to institutional leaders. Discussions will draw upon traditional notions of library service philosophy and values-focused business literature. Participants will reflect on value statements, explore writing strategies and use them to direct our professional practice and refine our communication approaches.
By focusing on these guiding principles, health library teams can showcase our services’ greatest strengths, manage difficult situations, navigate funding shortages, and manifest our essential contributions to the healthcare sector.
This event is a collaboration between OHLIA and The Education Institute.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify how and when organizational values can help inform difficult workplace decisions.
- Define and articulate personal and organizational values to direct and showcase library work.
- Use value statements to discuss the library’s vital role within larger organizational structures.
