Winner of the 2023 W. Kaye Lamb Award for Innovative Services to Seniors
The Ex Libris Association (ELA) and the Canadian Federation of Library Associations/Federation canadienne des associations de bibliotheques (CFLA-FCAB) are pleased to announce that the W. Kaye Lamb Award for Innovative Services to Seniors recipient for 2023 is the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library.
ELA’s W. Kaye Lamb Award Committee was unanimous in selecting Innisfil ideaLAB & Library for their outstanding work for Kits and Community: Activity Kits for Older Adults.
The W. Kaye Lamb Award is named for Canada’s first National Librarian and is given biennially in recognition of library service specifically designed to meet the needs of seniors. Award Committee members were impressed with Innisfil’s submission which detailed the development of activity kits designed to help ease the loneliness, fear and sadness that many seniors experienced during the pandemic. Both the scale of the program and the number of kits distributed during the pandemic and afterward were considered highly deserving of the W. Kaye Lamb Award by the Award Committee. Moreover, the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library award submission took great care to present the project as one that could be replicated in other libraries wishing to provide a similar service for their senior clienteles.
The pictures below showcase program activities that help seniors rebuild their social circles. In the first photo three seniors are meeting together at a home to work on their HackLAB activity kits while the second shows a gathering of seniors in the Library to socialize as they complete an activity program.
The W. Kaye Lamb Award is co-sponsored by Ex Libris Association (ELA) and the Canadian Federation of Library Associations/Federation canadienne des associations de bibliotheques (CFLA-FCAB). Any Canadian library, whether private, public, governmental, special or postsecondary, may apply for the award. ELA and CFLA-FCAB congratulate Innisfil ideaLAB & Library on being the successful recipient of the W. Kaye Lamb Award through this well -developed program that fosters community by providing engaging activities for seniors.
