Theme: Defying Conventions: Innovative Perspectives in the Information Field
The iSchool Student Conference invites participants to submit proposals to participate in this year’s discussion of challenging perceptions and changing perspectives of Information Professionals. Potential discussions of the theme might include reinterpreting the professional identity and role, reclaiming misconceptions, pushing boundaries in the field, or emerging issues for the 21st century information or museum professional.
There are many ways to participate in this year’s conference:
- Lightning Talks: Present your research or project in 5 minutes, followed by a constructive five minute question period encouraging elaboration and collaboration on progress and possibilities.
- Panels: Discuss your research as one of three 15 minute presentations on a related topic. You can apply as a partial or complete panel with two or three people, or apply on your own to be assigned a panel. If you are applying as a complete panel, each participant should describe their own paper in the allotted 250 words, and please include an additional 100 words describing the cohesive panel theme.
- Poster Sessions: Interpret your work through a poster and interact one-on-one with faculty and students from any of the diverse backgrounds we have at the iSchool as they view your poster in a casual setting
- Workshops: Teach a valuable skill or tool for a 21st century information or museum professional in an interactive workshop in 15 to 45 minutes. Please state the learning outcome(s) of your workshop, as well as how much time you will need in your 300 word proposal.
- Alternative delivery: Submissions that fit the theme but not the aforementioned formats are welcome and encouraged! Just include the 250 word description of your content and add a few sentences describing your proposed format.
Describe your conference paper or presentation in 250 words and submit by January 15, 2016. Please contact ischoolstudentconference@gmail.com with any questions you may have about the conference.
