Registration Open for New Librarians Symposium 2021

May 3, 2021

Registration is now open for the 5th annual New Librarians Symposium (NLS). Normally held in-person, this event will be happening virtually via Zoom on Friday, June 11.

The theme of this year’s event is Libraries and Labour: Organizing for Action. It will feature a range of speakers and programming that will interrogate what labour challenges the profession currently faces and inspire attendees to take action on these issues. We’ll be exploring topics such as emotional and other invisible labour, understanding our role as library workers under racial capitalism, examining working conditions and power structures, and discussing practical strategies for how to assert and fight for your rights as a worker.

As an event that focuses on building connections and learning across different sectors, the NLS is open to all graduates of MLIS (or equivalent) programs who identify as early career professionals. Although “librarian” is in the title of the event, this is a catch all phrase for librarians, archivists, record and knowledge managers, prospect researchers, and everyone in between!

Make sure you register soon, as attendance will be capped at 80 people.

For more information on NLS (including speakers, tentative schedule, and information on how to register), please visit the event website. Got questions not covered by the FAQ? Feel free to get in touch at newlibsymp@gmail.com.
