The Hague, Netherlands – 22 July 2025 – The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) has selected Busan, South Korea, to host the 2026 World Library and Information Congress from 10-13 August 2026.

The 90th World Library and Information Congress (IFLA WLIC 2026) will mark IFLA’s return to South Korea, two decades after the successful WLIC 2006 in Seoul. The Korean Library Association secured a strong and compelling bid to welcome the global library community.

The Conference will be held at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Centre (BEXCO) and will feature diverse approaches, ranging from peer learning and practical case studies to thought-provoking insights from leading experts who challenge established assumptions.

“I very much enjoyed the opportunity to visit the libraries and meet with South Korean colleagues. They have much to be proud of, and I know international attendees will greatly appreciate the chance to explore and learn from the libraries and librarians during the Congress,”

said Vicki McDonald, IFLA President and member of the IFLA site visit team.

We will be sharing more about plans for WLIC 2026 in the coming months and at the 2025 World Library and Information Congress in Astana, Kazakhstan, so be sure to stop by and meet the delegation representing the next WLIC! We also look forward to welcoming colleagues from South Korea to the 2025 Congress in Astana.
