Canadian Library Workers Day 2025

Canadian Library Workers Day 2025

October 17, 2025

“We talk at the Library a lot about our treasures. . . [B]ut quite really these are merely things, they may be precious things and very beautiful things, but they are inert objects stuck in stacks unless they can be mediated, unless they can be brought forth, unless those who need them and want them can be shown how to use them, how to make them work.

All our great assets in this library go home at night, I hasten to add, some of them very late.”

— Timothy Healy, S.J. (President, New York Public Library, 1989-92)

Canadian Library Workers Day, the third Friday of Canadian Library Month, is a day to recognize the valuable contributions made by all those who work in and for the public, academic, school, government, academic, corporate and private libraries and information organizations that are integral to our communities.

The heart and strength of libraries are the library workers. Without them, libraries cannot function. Libraries rely on their staff to provide service to their communities and to help their libraries and communities grow.

This Canadian Library Workers Day, take a moment to please give thanks and recognition for the hard work and dedication that they show each and every day!
