Happy Library Lovers’ Day to Librarians Without Borders! (And Happy 10th Anniversary, too!)
February 12, 2015
In February 2005, a group of socially-minded librarians came together to address the vast information resource inequity existing between different regions of the world. As a result, Librarians Without Borders (LWB) was born.
In the ten years since its creation, LWB has grown from a small group of students at the University of Western Ontario’s Library and Information Science program to an international non-profit organization with over 1,500 members in 75+ countries, active student chapters in 6 Canadian universities, and projects across Canada, in Central America, and in Africa.
February is more than just the birth month of LWB. February is also when Library Lovers’ Day, an initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), is celebrated.
Library Lovers’ Day is a chance for everyone to connect with libraries and share the library love. For ten years, Librarians Without Borders has worked to put information in the hands of the world by connecting communities to libraries and readers to books.
To celebrate Library Lovers’ Day this year, let’s share the library love with LWB for all their efforts.
Happy Library Lovers’ Day to Librarians Without Borders and its many contributors!
