We are excited to announce that the planning for the third iteration of the New Librarians Symposium (NLS) is underway! Stay tuned for more information as we finalize the details.
When we say “new librarians,” we’re referring to anyone who identifies as an early career information professional. Although “librarian” is in the title of the event, this is used as a catch all phrase for librarians, archivists, record managers, and others working in the information science field.
This event will not be a didactic or “how to” event, and will not be focused around securing a job. This differentiates it from other events organized by Library and Information Science faculties or associations. The purpose of the event is for new professionals to connect with each other, develop networks, explore potential collaborations, and learn.
Programming for the day will feature discussions led by working professionals from across the information science field as well as structured opportunities to interact with other new professionals. For a snapshot of content from previous events, check out the Past Events tab or check out the Twitter hashtag (#newlibsymp16 / #newlibsymp17).
The New Librarians Symposium is organized by Juliene McLaughlin and Ali Versluis, both from the University of Guelph.
