Call for Nominations: ARL Leadership & Career Development Program (LCDP) 2018–2019

The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is seeking nominations and applications for the 2018–2019 Leadership & Career Development Program (LCDP). The LCDP is a yearlong program to prepare mid-career librarians from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups to take on leadership roles in their careers and in the profession at large.

The ARL LCDP addresses the need for research libraries and archives to develop a more diverse professional workforce that can contribute to library success in serving the research, teaching, and learning of increasingly diverse scholarly and learning communities. This is accomplished, in part, by providing LCDP fellows with meaningful exposure to the major strategic issues that are shaping the future of research libraries.

Program Components

The ARL LCDP engages fellows in six major experiences over a one-year period (late spring 2018–early summer 2019):

• A two-day orientation
• Two multi-day institutes
• A career-coaching relationship with an ARL library director or senior staff member and a personalized visit to the career coach’s institution
• For those interested, training on identifying, developing, and conducting a capstone project during the fellowship
• Online discussions and webinars related to the ARL Strategic Framework
• A closing ceremony held during American Library Association Annual Conference

Eligibility

To be eligible for the LCDP, you must:

• Identify as being from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group, based on the categories outlined by the US Census Bureau or Statistics Canada as well as First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people classifications
• Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada
• Be employed as a library, archive, or information professional in any setting
• Demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing leadership roles within the library or archives profession

The completed online application form and attachments as well as both letters should be submitted to ARL by 11:59 p.m. eastern standard time (EST) on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Tuition for the yearlong fellowship is $5,000 for professionals employed in ARL member libraries, $5,500 for all others.
