CFLA Copyright Committee Update (November 2022)

At its November meeting, the CFLA Copyright Committee discussed the following activities/matters:

1. Updated Committee Terms of Reference were approved and will be sent to CFLA Board for final approval.
2. Committee is working on finalizing meetings with Canadian Heritage and ISED staff to present the library community’s concerns re copyright.
3. Position paper on Right to Repair was accepted by CFLA Board and has been posted to CFLA website.
4. An op-ed on accessibility and the Marrakesh Treaty from Copyright Committee chair Victoria Owen was published in the Hill Times.
5. An ad hoc group has been formed to investigate the feasibility of statutory secondary publication rights (e.g. Tavern amendment) in Canada.

This message about current activities is the outcome of discussions at our committee in February 2021 about raising awareness of CFLA copyright activities.
