CFLA releases 2025 Federal Election Advocacy Toolkit

March 28, 2025

The Canadian Federation of Library Associations (CFLA), in partnership with their government relations firm (Impact Public Affairs), has released several elections-related documents:

Spread the Word: Libraries are an Essential Part of Canada’s Social Infrastructure

As CFLA-FCAB continues to work to advance library excellence and raise the visibility of libraries in Canada, it is crucial that Members of Parliament (MPs) recognize and understand the key role that libraries play in building strong resilient communities.

The upcoming federal election is a unique opportunity to connect with future MPs from the major parties and convey the importance of Canada’s libraries. We ask that you encourage your members to connect with their local candidates to raise awareness of what makes Canada’s libraries a key part of social infrastructure for our communities and the barriers they face.

All politics begin at the local level – that is why making connections in your community is so important in accomplishing our goals. By meeting with your local candidate, you can promote our shared objective of sustainable funding for libraries in Canada and demonstrate the real-life impact libraries have on members of your shared community.

CFLA has prepare a brief kit that provides resources to help you connect with your local candidate, including a comprehensive guide to having a successful and productive meeting. It also includes templates for email messages to candidates, a one-pager you can leave with candidates, graphics and suggested social media captions that can be shared online. We will continue to add to these resources in the weeks to come as we prepare for the post-election period. The CFLA Elections Kit includes:
