Christine Ivory Nominated as New Parliamentary Librarian

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced the nomination of Christine Ivory as the next Parliamentary Librarian.
The Parliamentary Librarian oversees the management of the Library of Parliament and reports to the Speakers of the Senate and the House of Commons.
Christine Ivory was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister, Collections Sector, at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) in 2023 where she leads operational strategies, plans, and processes related to Canada’s published heritage and historical records. Prior to joining LAC, she served at the Library of Parliament for over 15 years in a variety of leadership positions, including as Director General of Information and Document Resource Services, Acting Senior Director for Reference, Current Awareness and User Services, and Director of Information Technology.

June 7, 2024 (Ottawa, Ontario) The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced the nomination of Christine Ivory as the next Parliamentary Librarian.
Christine Ivory is an accomplished leader and public servant who has devoted her career to supporting parliamentary democracy and preserving Canada’s documentary heritage. For almost 25 years, she has held multiple positions across the federal public service, most recently as Assistant Deputy Minister, Collections Sector, at Library and Archives Canada. As an integral member of the Library of Parliament’s management team for over 15 years, Ms. Ivory has provided extensive insight, guidance, and advice to parliamentarians on the Library’s priorities and corporate initiatives.
Established in 1876, the Library of Parliament is a fully functioning library whose collection and services support the activities and decisions of Parliament and parliamentarians. The Parliamentary Librarian oversees the management of the Library and reports to the Speakers of the Senate and the House of Commons.
Christine Ivory was chosen as the nominee for the position of Parliamentary Librarian through an open and transparent selection process.

Christine Ivory is an accomplished leader and public servant who has devoted her career of almost 25 years to supporting parliamentary democracy and preserving Canada’s documentary heritage. She is experienced in management, legislative research, interparliamentary affairs, and legislative libraries.
Ms. Ivory was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister, Collections Sector, at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) in 2023, where she led operational strategies, plans, and processes related to Canada’s published heritage and historical records. During her tenure, she made significant contributions to advancing LAC’s mandate and ensuring that Canada’s diverse collections are accessible to all Canadians.
Prior to her role at LAC, Ms. Ivory was an integral member of the Library of Parliament’s management team for over 15 years, including as Director General of Information and Document Resource Services and as Senior Director of Economics, Resources and International Affairs. Over the years, she provided extensive non-partisan advice and research support to parliamentarians. For nearly a decade, Ms. Ivory worked internationally with legislatures from across the globe.
Fluently bilingual, Ms. Ivory was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Manitoba in 1998 and a Master of Arts from Queen’s University in 1999.
