Upcoming Exhibition in Montreal: Detachment by Sarah Hatton

December 27, 2016

Were you one of the attendees at the Taking it to the Streets summit amazed by Sarah Hatton’s video about her Detachment artwork?

If you are visiting Montreal between January and March, you will be able to see her work on display.

Hatton announced that Detachment will be exhibited from January 20, 2017 to March 4, 2017 at Visual Voice Art Gallery in Montreal. Opening Reception on January 21st from 3pm to 5pm.

From her description:

Detachment honours the lives lost during the First World War and reinforces the enduring importance of collective memory on its 100th anniversary. These artworks are made from thousands of historical brass fasteners that once held together the military records of the Canadian Expeditionary Force.

You can see the entire series at www.sarahhattonartist.com

My sincere gratitude to Library and Archives Canada for providing me with the brass from their mass digitization of 640,000 soldiers’ files. Learn more about this important project here: http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/Pages/digitization-cef-service-files.aspx
