Appointment of Talia Chung as University Librarian and Vice-Provost (Knowledge Systems)

Dear colleagues,

I am delighted to announce that, at its meeting on September 18, 2018, the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors approved the appointment of Talia Chung as University Librarian and Vice-Provost (Knowledge Systems) for a five-year term, from October 1, 2018 to June 30, 2023.

An experienced librarian and manager, Ms. Chung has over twenty years’ experience in the library sector and is currently the Associate University Librarian, Research Services at the University of Ottawa Library. She has previously held many roles at the University, including interim Director of the Morisset Arts and Science Library and Interim Director of the Health Sciences Library. Before joining the University of Ottawa in 2011, she worked at Canada’s Library of Parliament, where she held the position of Chief, Current Awareness and Strategic Analysis Section, and led numerous digital initiative projects. She began her career as a reference librarian at the Library of Parliament. Ms. Chung holds a master’s degree in library and information studies from McGill University and a graduate diploma in computer science from Concordia University.

I am certain her track record of achievement will make her well-suited to lead the Library of the University of Ottawa.

On behalf of the University Community, I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to Talia Chung, as well as my best wishes for success in her new position.

I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks to Ms. Leslie Weir for her outstanding work as well as her leadership as University Librarian over the past sixteen years. I also wish to thank Ms. Joan Cavanagh for accepting to serve as Interim University Librarian. Ms Cavanagh will continue to serve as Interim University Librarian until October 1, 2018, before Ms. Chung officially begins her term.

Sincerely,

Jacques Frémont
President and Vice-Chancellor
