Copyright term extension: FAQ for Canadian Libraries
November 23, 2022
As we know from the most recent Budget Implementation Act, the term of copyright protection in Canada for many types of works will be changing from 50 years past the year of death of the creator (e.g., author, composer, etc.) to 70 years past the year of death of the creator.
While there is no official announcement yet, we believe that the Government is on track for this legislative change to come into force as of January 1, 2023.
To assist library staff and others working in information management with navigating this change we are compiling an FAQ.
Please share with us in either official language any questions you and your colleagues might have about the term extension as it relates to library collections, services, systems and training. This includes all public services and forms of collections (e.g., digital, paper, etc.).
Deadline: Wednesday, December 7.
