Canadiana.org and the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) Engage in Joint Exploration

Canadiana.org (Canadiana) and the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN), two organizations deeply rooted in digital information and in providing access to content across Canada, are jointly exploring strengthening their relationship and the potential of a combined organizational structure.

Canadiana is a coalition of memory institutions dedicated to providing broad access to Canada’s documentary heritage. CRKN is a partnership of Canadian universities dedicated to expanding digital content for the academic research enterprise in Canada. In addition to the linkages in mission is a significant overlap in membership across both organizations, highlighting the opportunity to leverage the expertise and capacity of each organization for mutual benefit.

A joint Canadiana and CRKN working group has been formed to further explore the opportunity over the next three months. The working group will report findings to the Board of Directors of both organizations in September, at which time any next steps will be identified. Should there be a recommendation by the respective Boards to pursue changes that affect one or both organizations these will be detailed in a formal report for review and discussion by the members of the respective organizations.
