Summer Rider Reading Challenge in Saskatchewan
July 10, 2024
Attention all readers! The Saskatchewan Library Association and the Saskatchewan Rider Foundation have teamed up to bring Saskatchewan residents an exciting Summer Rider Reading Challenge. The goal of this challenge is to inspire children young and old to have fun reading during the summer and build a community of Rider Readers.
“Studies show that reading throughout the summer can help prevent children from experiencing the ‘Summer Slide.’ Reading during the summer months can help ensure children are ready for a new year of learning,” comments Tina Kleisinger, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Library Association. “The Summer Rider Reader Challenge is a fun way to help prevent this slide from occurring.”
The challenge will start July 11 and end on August 29, 2024. Participants are encouraged to visit their local library, load up on books, and read. Next, they can register online at riderville.com/riderreadingchallenge and record the minutes they have read each week. Weekly prizes for the top reader include tickets to a Saskatchewan Roughrider home game, t-shirts, autographed footballs, and Indigo gift cards. As well, a grand prize of a Rider Reader Party hosted by Gainer the Gopher will be awarded to the library branch that reads the most collective minutes.
Minutes read by participants across Saskatchewan will be announced weekly on the Saskatchewan Roughrider website and weekly winners will be announced on Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation social media channels. The grand total of minutes read throughout the summer will be featured on the Maxxtron at one of the Saskatchewan Roughrider home games in the fall.
“The Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation supports three main community pillars: amateur sport, health, and education,” comments Marnie Forsberg, Manager, Community Programs for the Saskatchewan Roughrider Foundation. “Reading success is crucial to a solid education and success in life both on and off the field.”
