Legislative Library of BC opening up archival records for research
June 9, 2025
Dear Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to announce that, in the spirit of today’s International Archives Day, the Legislative Library of British Columbia has opened its first archival fonds for research.
The library’s archival collection is unique in its kind. It consists of private records of Former Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in BC. The records document the Former MLA’s political engagement and activism at the private level as well as their constituency work.
Our first two archival collections that are available and searchable through the Library’s Catalogue include:
Please note, to accommodate the use of a library system for describing archival materials, careful thought was put in how best to display the archival descriptions in a Library system without compromising the integrity of the fonds as one unit, and without breaking down the Global Settings of the Library Catalogue. The high-level description at the fonds level, contains a link to the detailed finding aid that presents the hierarchical descriptions and file lists.
Some tips that would lead you to the archival fonds from the library catalogue include the following key identification words:
- “fonds” in the title
- “ARCH” as the collection code
As we move ahead with making more records available for research, I invite you to spread the word out in your communities about BC’s MLA Papers Archives at the Legislative Library of British Columbia.

Happy International Archives Day!
