Environmental Scan of Digital Archiving Activity

August 16, 2017

From the University of Alberta Libraries:

The University of Alberta Libraries’ Digital Archives Strategy Working Group undertook an environmental scan of Digital Archiving practices this past spring. We looked at both publicly available and internal documentation from 32 institutions in Canada, the US, UK, and Australia. We looked at primarily academic institutions with some government agencies. This was by no means an exhaustive or comprehensive scan, but it was able to touch on the activities of some of the more involved institutions. Most institutions were chosen because working group members had heard about some of the work the institutions were doing.

Below you will find links to two documents with our scan results. The first is aggregated and anonymized results on the different questions we were looking to answer. These questions range from softwares used to integration with records management systems. Most institutions did not have information on all areas. The second document is specifically summaries of institutions’ workflows. The documents are open to comments, or you can email me at kjamieso@ualberta.ca with any questions.

Best,

Krista
