Dr. Louise Spiteri Appointed as President of ALISE

Dalhousie University School of Information Management (SIM) Associate Professor and former Director, Dr. Louise Spiteri, will be serving as President of the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) for 2016-2017. ALISE is is a non-profit organization that serves as the intellectual home of university faculty in graduate programs in library and information science in North America.

Dr. Spiteri has set the following goals for her Presidency:

1. Set the stage for a new ALISE strategic plan, including working with the committee to establish a framework. Feedback from member surveys, focus groups, virtual town halls, etc, will be incorporated into the plan.

2. Enhance the financial stability of ALISE, including ensuring a profitable 2017 conference, exploring increased funding to the Capital Campaign, money-making ventures,and potential awards and grants, in addition to devising strategies to increase membership (particularly Internationally).

3. Protect ALISE institutional knowledge, including establishing a robust records management plan, evaluating and enhancing knowledge transfer practices amongst members, and determining appropriate change and risk management policies and procedures.

4. Continue to develop outreach, promotion, and advocacy strategies, including strengthening recruitment and marketing activities to increase membership, work with LIS schools to develop strategies for increasing enrolment, and exploring how LIS educators and researchers can develop active partnerships with communities and civil society.

5. Continue to work with ALA/COA on relevant accreditation of LIS programs, including continued liaising with the Committee on Accreditation and the Council of Deans and Directors.

6. Continue to strengthen and expand the JELIS publication, including moving to an open access format and working towards publishing conference proceedings online.
