On February 10th, 2016, the 10th annual student-run Information Without Borders Conference (IWB) will be held in the McInnes Room at Dalhousie University’s Student Union Building. The topic for the 2016 conference is Managing Health Information: Technologies and Strategies for the 21st Century. Discussion at the conference will consider the following aspects of health-related information:

  • How the management of health care data and records is evolving
  • Where consumers turn to for reliable and accessible health information
  • How Health Informatics and emerging information technologies transform health care
  • The role of Information Managers in supporting evidence-based health decisions

The Forum for Information Professionals (formerly Professional Development Day) is an annual one-day event of presentations and discussions on current topics facing librarianship. The event is hosted by the students of the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta and organized by the Forum for Information Professionals committee. FIP is an opportunity for librarians and information professionals from all parts of Alberta to exchange ideas with library students and academics. Speakers include professional librarians as well as current and past students.

The 2016 seminar and symposium will focus on the preservation of informal communications in cloud environments generated through the use of social media. Archivists, records managers, and other information professionals will discuss the nature of social media output, the identification of what should be preserved, methods of preservation and provision of access, and legal issues related to intellectual rights, privacy, right to be forgotten, and more.
