Update on Alberta Library Conference

July 27, 2021

Updated: July 28, 2021

Thank you to those who have reached out regarding the Alberta Library Conference. LAA recognizes that ALC was beloved by many of our members. Please know that we did not come to this decision lightly.

ALC was a partnership between LAA and ALTA. Ultimately it was decided cooperatively by both associations that ALC no longer best served the needs of our combined memberships. This was done after a review of many factors, including but not limited to fiscal restructuring, impacts of the pandemic, feedback from our members via the LAA Advisory Committee and changes in the entire library community. Regarding the concerns with transparency; when a lawsuit is started against an organization, as has happened against LAA, their ability to communicate generally beyond the Board level on issues related to the lawsuit is restricted. The LAA Board is looking forward to providing a full and complete report on the review and decision to the membership as soon as we are able. We are developing various opportunities to meet the needs and budget of our wonderfully diverse membership.

We are encouraged at the level of thoughtful discussion and feedback. We hope this level of engagement continues to shape future boards with diverse thoughts and perspectives.
