BookNet Canada today released a new study that benchmarks library use in Canada by exploring the browsing, borrowing, and reading habits of Canadian library patrons.

In 2021, 18% of all Canadian library books borrowers borrowed an audiobook and audiobooks accounted for 9% of all library loans.

Researchers at the University of British Columbia, in partnership with BCLA, are conducting a study titled, “Balancing intellectual freedom and medical disinformation in Canadian libraries.”

The study was conducted to gather baseline data on the composition of personnel in CARL libraries, gauge employee feedback on current EDI initiatives, and establish a set of benchmarks against which to evaluate and measure the impact of CARL libraries’ strategies and practices with respect to diversity and inclusion.

The 20th Library Research Forum will take place over two days, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm on Tuesday April 26th and Wednesday April 27th, 2022.

How do academic librarians learn about Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion? What makes learning about EDI transformative and impactful? Canadian academic librarians and archivists are invited to participate in a research study on EDI learning experiences.

The research focused on official languages measures in libraries in Canada. It consisted of a literature review and a survey of the legislative, regulatory and policy measures adopted by the provinces and territories to govern public libraries and language practices. It also looked at the contribution of university libraries, on the one hand, and that of community libraries and book fairs, on the other, to the vitality of official language minority communities (OLMCs).
