LAC Vision 2030: Library and Archives Canada Releases New Strategic Plan

Library and Archives Canada (LAC) last week released its strategic plan, Vision 2030, defining the institution’s goals until 2030 and the measures through which it is planning to accomplish them.
The plan was developed between 2020 and 2022 through online consultations, focus groups, and surveys, with LAC’s users, partners and staff.
Vision 2030 is built around the statement Discover. Understand. Connect. and has four key elements:
- Inviting users to discover the collections: Make our collections better known and more accessible
- Reflecting diverse voices: Acquire collections that reflect a diverse and inclusive society
- Engaging with the community, partnering with the world: Work with our partners, in the community and around the world
- Supporting our people, sustaining our heritage: Create the conditions that support our staff
Each of the four goals has supporting measures to accomplish them:
1. Inviting users to discover the collections
- User-friendly web presence
- Self-service access
- Access to information
- Reaching out to new audiences
- Putting collections in context
- National awareness programs
- A strategy for inclusion
- Respectful descriptions
- More online content
- Easy access to government records
- A commitment to preservation
3. Engaging with the community, partnering with the world
- More community engagement
- National and international partnerships
- Working with the GLAM sector
4. Supporting our people, sustaining our heritage
- A culture of collaboration
- Inclusive hiring practices
- Strategic governance
- Sustainable development
